WASHINGTON, DC - January 18, 2021 - (LATINX NEWSWIRE) - GNI Media Lab - we formed a collaborative program for local and minority-owned publications. During the summer we presented more than a dozen web-based training sessions through Google’s Online Training Center, at no cost to the participants. More than 150 publishers, editors, and staff took advantage of this learning opportunity.

Last week, the Google News Initiative (GNI) announced the 28 publications that have been accepted into the first GNI Media Lab with NAHP, NNPA, and AAN members. The goal of the Media Lab is to spur a digital transformation for Latino and Black publishers and eight of them are Latino/Hispanic publications.

The GNI Media Lab program includes funds to hire a Digital Specialist. On December 25th, NAHP Inc. contracted Fernando Diaz, Chicago Standard, to serve as the Digital Specialist for Hispanic publications. Fernando will announce ‘office hours’ for the participating publications and those publishers interested in learning about opportunities to adopt digital technologies that can increase revenue.
