Whether you’re packing up for a day at the beach, a family picnic, or planning back-to-school lunches, sandwiches are a great go-to meal with endless varieties.

Today, we’re celebrating National Sandwich Month with a Latin American twist. Ever heard of a Mexican torta? These traditional Mexican sandwiches are stacked full of delicious flavors, a little messy, and oh-so-delicious.

For those that aren’t familiar, tortas are a kind of sandwich, served on sandwich rolls similar to a small baguette, and may be referred to as a bolillo, birote, or pan francés depending on region. The bread rolls are then filled with a variety of things including meat, sauce, and various toppings such as crema, avocado, salsa, and iceberg lettuce.
